Custom Urban Commuter Bags Manufacturer — OEM & ODM in China

Eighteen Craft manufactures custom urban commuter bags — messenger bags, crossbody and sling styles, and convertible daily-carry designs — with an MOQ from about 500 pieces per design.

  • ~500 employees
  • ~500,000 pcs / month
  • MOQ from 500 pcs

Eighteen Craft manufactures custom urban commuter bags for brands and sellers serving daily-carry markets in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific. The category covers messenger bags, crossbody and sling styles, laptop commuter bags and convertible backpack-messenger hybrids, produced from a buyer's tech pack or developed from a concept in our own sampling room.

Commuter buyers usually arrive with a feature list rather than a drawing: a device sleeve, a quick-access pocket, an anti-theft closure, a strap that adjusts one-handed. Our development team turns that list into a pattern and a bill of materials, then tells you plainly which features are cheap to add and which ones change the price bracket. Modularity and clean minimal builds have been the dominant requests in this category for the last few seasons.

What we build

Urban Commuter Bags styles we manufacture

Every style below can be produced to your design (OEM) or developed with you from a concept (ODM), and each is customisable in size, material, colourway, hardware and branding.

Messenger bags

Flap-over styles with a wide adjustable shoulder strap.

Crossbody and sling bags

Compact single-strap carry, currently the fastest-moving commuter sub-type.

Laptop commuter bags

Slim profiles with a padded device sleeve and cable routing.

Convertible backpack-messenger hybrids

Dual-carry designs with stowable straps.

Minimalist daily-carry bags

Clean exteriors with hidden zip access and few visible seams.

Two development routes

OEM or ODM — which path fits your urban commuter bags project

OEM

You supply the design

Send a tech pack, drawings or a physical sample. We review feasibility, quote against the specification, source the materials and manufacture to your standard. Fastest route when the product is already defined.

You provide: design files or sample, material and hardware preferences, branding artwork, quantity.

ODM

We develop it with you

Start from a sketch, a market reference or just a product concept. We handle pattern making, material plan, hardware selection and prototyping, then produce under your brand. Suited to brands without an in-house design team.

You provide: concept or reference, target price and market, branding direction.

Both routes run through the same one-stop OEM & ODM process — concept, style development, material selection, colour and hardware customisation, sampling, mass production and quality control.

Materials

Materials suited to urban commuter bags

Material choice sets price, weight and durability before construction begins. Full denier guidance and a side-by-side comparison live on the material capabilities page.

Nylon / poly fabric

The default commuter material — light, water-repellent and abrasion-resistant.

Polyester

Cost-controlled option with strong color fastness for printed or bold colorways.

Canvas

Heritage and lifestyle positioning; pairs well with leather trim.

PU and synthetic leather

Premium urban look at a controlled cost, often used as trim or full body.

Genuine leather

For high-end commuter lines where hand-feel drives the price position.

Customisation options

Body size, depth and device sleeve dimensionsStrap type: webbing, padded, leather, one-handed adjustersClosure system: magnetic, buckle, hidden zip, anti-theftInterior organizer layout and cable pass-throughsHardware finish and buckle styleLogo method: embroidery, metal plate, heat transfer, woven labelWater-repellent coating level

Minimum order quantity

MOQ from about 500 pieces per design

MOQ from about 500 pieces per design. Feature-heavy commuter styles sometimes carry a slightly higher minimum when custom hardware has to be tooled.

The minimum is set deliberately low so a new urban commuter bag design can be validated in the market before you commit capital to volume. It is the difference between testing three styles and betting everything on one.

MOQ varies with material availability, colour count and construction complexity — custom-developed materials or custom hardware tooling raise it. Capacity of about 500,000 pieces per month means the same line handles your scale-up when the test succeeds.

What raises or lowers your MOQ

  • ↓Stock-colour materials and standard hardware keep the minimum at its floor
  • ↓Fewer colourways per style concentrates the run
  • ↑Custom-dyed or specially finished materials are bought in batches
  • ↑Custom-tooled hardware or moulded components carry their own minimums
  • ↑Highly complex constructions need more line setup per unit

Lead times

From inquiry to shipment

Bulk production time starts at written sample approval, not at inquiry — the single most common source of timeline misunderstanding in bag sourcing. Plan backwards from your in-market date accordingly.

Stage Typical duration Notes
Specification review & quotation 1–2 business days Indicative price, MOQ and material plan against your brief.
Sampling 7–12 days Pattern making, prototype assembly and a physical sample shipped for review.
Sample revision (if needed) 4–7 days per round Most programmes settle within one or two rounds.
Bulk production 25–40 days Begins after written pre-production sample approval.
Final inspection & export packing 2–4 days AQL 2.5 style random inspection, then cartoning and palletising.

Quality control

What we inspect on urban commuter bags

Every order passes incoming material inspection, written pre-production sample sign-off, in-line checks during sewing, an end-of-line functional check and a final random inspection on an AQL 2.5 style sampling plan.

Eighteen Craft holds no third-party certifications and will not imply any. Buyers are welcome to book an independent inspector — see the full quality control system.

  • Incoming inspection: fabric coating, color and hand against the approved swatch
  • Cutting: panel accuracy on multi-panel bodies
  • Sewing: stitch density, seam straightness, bar-tacks at strap anchors
  • Hardware: buckle and adjuster function, zipper cycle test
  • Assembly: device sleeve fit, closure alignment, strap symmetry
  • Final inspection: dimensional tolerance, water-repellency spot check, packing

Cost drivers

What moves your unit price

There is no single per-unit price for urban commuter bags — cost is built from materials, hardware, construction labour, quantity tier and packaging. These are the levers you can actually pull.

01

Material grade and coating level

02

Number of panels and seams in the body

03

Hardware complexity — one-handed adjusters and anti-theft closures cost more

04

Device sleeve padding specification

05

Order quantity per colorway

06

Logo method and coverage

  • +Buyers who need design help turning a feature list into a producible pattern
  • +Cross-border sellers testing a modular or convertible concept

Our process

Concept to finished product in seven stages

01

Inquiry & brief

Send the urban commuter bags reference, target quantity and target price. We respond with an indicative quotation and an honest read on feasibility.

02

Design or tech-pack review

OEM: we review your drawings or physical sample. ODM: we develop the pattern, material plan and hardware selection from your concept.

03

Material confirmation

Swatches and hardware options are confirmed against the price point and use scenario before any sample is cut.

04

Sampling

A physical sample is produced in 7–12 days and shipped for your inspection.

05

Pre-production sign-off

A sample made from bulk materials is approved in writing. This is the gate that prevents bulk-scale errors.

06

Bulk production & in-line QC

Production runs 25–40 days with stitch, alignment and dimensional checks taken on the line, not only at the end.

07

Final inspection & shipment

Final random inspection on an AQL 2.5 style plan, then export packing, documentation and dispatch.

Urban Commuter Bags questions

Frequently asked questions

Question not answered here? Email info@eighteencraft.com or call +86 15398220952 — we reply within 24 hours on business days.

What is the minimum order quantity for custom commuter bags?

MOQ starts at approximately 500 pieces per design. Styles that need custom-tooled hardware occasionally carry a higher minimum, which we state clearly at quotation rather than after sampling.

What is the difference between your OEM and ODM services?

OEM means you supply the design, tech pack or a reference sample and we manufacture to it. ODM means you bring a concept or a feature list and our development team builds the pattern, prototype and bill of materials with you.

How long does sampling and production take?

Sampling typically takes 7–12 days and bulk production 25–40 days after sample approval. Custom hardware or non-stock fabrics extend the sampling stage, so we flag those at the quotation.

What materials can you use for messenger and crossbody bags?

Nylon and poly fabrics, polyester, canvas, PU and synthetic leather, and genuine leather for premium lines. Commuter bags most often use coated nylon for weather resistance, with leather or PU trim where the positioning calls for it.

Can you produce bags to my own design and add my logo?

Yes. We work from tech packs, sketches or physical samples, and apply branding by embroidery, metal plate, heat transfer, woven label or debossing depending on the material.

Do you have factory certifications?

No. We do not currently hold third-party factory certifications or audit reports, and we will not claim otherwise. Buyers who require them should treat that as a genuine constraint. Our trust case rests on quantified capacity, transparent process and stage-by-stage quality control.
