OEM & ODM manufacturing

Custom Backpacks Manufacturer — OEM & ODM in China

Eighteen Craft manufactures custom backpacks — laptop and business packs, commuter styles, travel backpacks and casual daypacks — mainly in polyester and nylon Oxford, with an MOQ from about 500 pieces.

  • ~500 employees
  • ~500,000 pcs / month
  • MOQ from 500 pcs

Eighteen Craft is a China-based OEM and ODM backpack manufacturer producing laptop backpacks, urban commuter packs, travel backpacks and casual daypacks for global brands, cross-border sellers and retailers. Backpacks are our highest-volume fabric category, and the one where denier selection and component quality decide whether a product survives its warranty period.

A backpack is a load-bearing product, so the cost conversation is different from a fashion bag. Strap attachment, base panel reinforcement, zipper gauge and foam density are where failures happen in the field, and they are also where a supplier can quietly cut cost. We quote those components explicitly so buyers can see what they are paying for rather than discovering it after the first returns arrive.

What we build

Backpacks styles we manufacture

Every style below can be produced to your design (OEM) or developed with you from a concept (ODM), and each is customisable in size, material, colourway, hardware and branding.

Laptop and business backpacks

Padded device compartments sized to 13", 14", 15.6" or 16" machines.

Urban commuter backpacks

Clean silhouettes with hidden pockets, water-repellent finishes and trolley straps.

Travel backpacks

Larger volume packs with reinforced bases and compression systems.

Casual and school daypacks

Cost-efficient everyday packs, the most common entry point for new brands.

Sports and outdoor daypacks

Lighter ripstop builds with breathable mesh back panels.

Two development routes

OEM or ODM — which path fits your backpacks project

OEM

You supply the design

Send a tech pack, drawings or a physical sample. We review feasibility, quote against the specification, source the materials and manufacture to your standard. Fastest route when the product is already defined.

You provide: design files or sample, material and hardware preferences, branding artwork, quantity.

ODM

We develop it with you

Start from a sketch, a market reference or just a product concept. We handle pattern making, material plan, hardware selection and prototyping, then produce under your brand. Suited to brands without an in-house design team.

You provide: concept or reference, target price and market, branding direction.

Both routes run through the same one-stop OEM & ODM process — concept, style development, material selection, colour and hardware customisation, sampling, mass production and quality control.

Materials

Materials suited to backpacks

Material choice sets price, weight and durability before construction begins. Full denier guidance and a side-by-side comparison live on the material capabilities page.

Polyester (300D–900D Oxford)

The cost-efficient workhorse — good color fastness and UV resistance, easy to print.

Nylon / poly fabric

Lighter and more abrasion-resistant than polyester at the same denier, with a softer hand.

Canvas

Heritage look for lifestyle daypacks; heavier and slower to sew.

PU and synthetic leather

Used as accent panels, base reinforcement or full premium urban styles.

Minimum order quantity

MOQ from about 500 pieces per design

MOQ from about 500 pieces per design. Backpacks are usually the easiest category to split across two or three colorways inside one run.

The minimum is set deliberately low so a new backpack design can be validated in the market before you commit capital to volume. It is the difference between testing three styles and betting everything on one.

MOQ varies with material availability, colour count and construction complexity — custom-developed materials or custom hardware tooling raise it. Capacity of about 500,000 pieces per month means the same line handles your scale-up when the test succeeds.

What raises or lowers your MOQ

  • ↓Stock-colour materials and standard hardware keep the minimum at its floor
  • ↓Fewer colourways per style concentrates the run
  • ↑Custom-dyed or specially finished materials are bought in batches
  • ↑Custom-tooled hardware or moulded components carry their own minimums
  • ↑Highly complex constructions need more line setup per unit

Lead times

From inquiry to shipment

Bulk production time starts at written sample approval, not at inquiry — the single most common source of timeline misunderstanding in bag sourcing. Plan backwards from your in-market date accordingly.

Stage Typical duration Notes
Specification review & quotation 1–2 business days Indicative price, MOQ and material plan against your brief.
Sampling 7–12 days Pattern making, prototype assembly and a physical sample shipped for review.
Sample revision (if needed) 4–7 days per round Most programmes settle within one or two rounds.
Bulk production 25–40 days Begins after written pre-production sample approval.
Final inspection & export packing 2–4 days AQL 2.5 style random inspection, then cartoning and palletising.

Quality control

What we inspect on backpacks

Every order passes incoming material inspection, written pre-production sample sign-off, in-line checks during sewing, an end-of-line functional check and a final random inspection on an AQL 2.5 style sampling plan.

Eighteen Craft holds no third-party certifications and will not imply any. Buyers are welcome to book an independent inspector — see the full quality control system.

  • Incoming inspection: fabric denier, coating and color against the approved swatch
  • Cutting: panel and webbing dimensions
  • Sewing: stitch density, bar-tack placement at all stress points, strap attachment strength
  • Hardware: zipper cycle test, buckle snap test, slider pull force
  • Assembly: laptop compartment fit, foam placement, symmetry of straps
  • Final inspection: load test on handles and straps, dimensional check, packing

Cost drivers

What moves your unit price

There is no single per-unit price for backpacks — cost is built from materials, hardware, construction labour, quantity tier and packaging. These are the levers you can actually pull.

01

Fabric denier — 600D versus 1680D materially changes both cost and product life

02

Number of compartments and internal organizer panels

03

Padding and foam specification

04

Zipper and buckle grade

05

Order quantity per colorway

06

Print or embroidery coverage area

Honest positioning

Are we the right backpacks supplier for you?

A good fit

  • +Brands and sellers launching a laptop, commuter or travel backpack line
  • +E-commerce sellers who need consistent repeat production for a hero SKU
  • +Buyers consolidating several bag categories with one supplier
  • +Corporate and promotional buyers ordering branded packs from 500 pieces

Not the best fit

  • –Buyers needing fewer than 500 pieces per style
  • –Buyers requiring specific third-party certifications or audit reports — we hold none
  • –Technical mountaineering packs requiring specialist load-carriage engineering

Our process

Concept to finished product in seven stages

01

Inquiry & brief

Send the backpacks reference, target quantity and target price. We respond with an indicative quotation and an honest read on feasibility.

02

Design or tech-pack review

OEM: we review your drawings or physical sample. ODM: we develop the pattern, material plan and hardware selection from your concept.

03

Material confirmation

Swatches and hardware options are confirmed against the price point and use scenario before any sample is cut.

04

Sampling

A physical sample is produced in 7–12 days and shipped for your inspection.

05

Pre-production sign-off

A sample made from bulk materials is approved in writing. This is the gate that prevents bulk-scale errors.

06

Bulk production & in-line QC

Production runs 25–40 days with stitch, alignment and dimensional checks taken on the line, not only at the end.

07

Final inspection & shipment

Final random inspection on an AQL 2.5 style plan, then export packing, documentation and dispatch.

Backpacks questions

Frequently asked questions

Question not answered here? Email info@eighteencraft.com or call +86 15398220952 — we reply within 24 hours on business days.

How much does it cost to manufacture a backpack?

Unit cost is driven mainly by fabric denier, compartment count, padding specification, hardware grade and order volume. Materials typically account for 30–55% of unit cost and labor 20–40%. A simple 600D daypack and a padded 1680D travel pack sit in very different bands — the bag cost calculator gives an indicative range before you send full specs.

What is the minimum order quantity for custom backpacks?

MOQ starts at approximately 500 pieces per design, and colorways can normally be split inside that quantity. This is deliberately set low so emerging brands can validate a style before committing to volume.

How long does backpack sampling and production take?

Sampling typically takes 7–12 days and bulk production 25–40 days after the pre-production sample is approved. Complex compartment layouts, custom hardware or non-stock fabrics extend the sampling stage.

What is the difference between OEM and ODM backpack manufacturing?

OEM means we build to your finished design, tech pack or reference sample. ODM means we develop the pattern and prototype from your concept, target price or reference images, which suits brands without an in-house design team.

Which materials can you use for custom backpacks?

Mainly polyester Oxford (300D–900D), nylon and poly fabrics, canvas, and PU or synthetic leather for accent panels and premium urban styles. We also specify linings, foam padding, webbing, zippers and buckles as part of the quote.
